EVEN Fox Cable News lamented Paul Ryan’s dishonesty at the Convention.

August 31, 2012

This year’s Republican campaign may be the most dishonest in history. At the convention, Paul Ryan repeated several of the 10 major falsehoods reported on previously & added a few more. Ryan continues to insist on repeating known falsehoods, to the extent that EVEN Fox Cable News lamented his dishonesty.

Romney is Lying Through His Teeth

Romney Is Lying Through His Big White Teeth

Republican Party developed 3 means of bypassing mainstream media & its fact-checkers. Together, these 3 mechanisms are creating a parallel Republican universe of Orwellian dimension-where anything can be asserted, where pollsters & political advisers are free to create whatever concoction of lies will help elect their candidate, & where “fact-checkers” are as irrelevant & intrusive as is the truth.

Medicare & Medicaid Killers

August 31, 2012

Paul Ryan’s speech Wednesday night dispelled myth that he’s a Serious, Honest Conservative. Ryan’s brazen dishonesty was infuriating, like his sanctimonious declaration that “the truest measure of any society is how it treats those who cannot defend or care for themselves.” But, Ryan proposed savage cuts in MEDICAID, which would cause tens of millions to lose health coverage.

Ryan proposed $4.3 trillion in overall tax cuts over next decade, versus only about $1.7 trillion in specific spending cuts.

Federal Court Unanimously Rules Against Texas Voter ID Law

August 30, 2012

A three-judge panel today refused to allow Texas to implement its controversial voter photo ID law, saying the “stringent” measure would harm racial minorities & the poor.

The judicial panel said the law would have a “retrogressive,” or backward-moving, effect on minorities. This was a significant win for Obama’s Justice Department.

Graph to see before you watch the conventions

August 29, 2012

All elected Republicans want to make the Bush tax cuts permanent. Democrats, by & large, want to end them for income over $250,000.
In this article, see the graph prepared by Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

The top layer, the orange one, shows the effect of the Bush tax cuts on debt. Those cuts added more to the debt than any other single policy decision.

See article to read about other layers.

Five myths about Obama’s stimulus

August 14, 2012

Five myths about Obama’s stimulus – The Washington Post

Mythbusters, read on and find out the facts on the 2009 Obama stimulus package:

Top economic forecasters estimate that the stimulus produced about 2.5 million jobs and added between 2.1 percent and 3.8 percent to our gross domestic product

. The jobs numbers that spring, while grim, marked the biggest quarterly improvement in almost 30 years. The Recovery Act launched a weak recovery, but even a w
eak recovery beats a depression.

“Critics may call it “porkulus,” but the stimulus was also the first modern spending bill with no official legislative earmarks, the usual definition of “pork.” And after experts warned that 5 to 7 percent of the money could be lost to fraud, investigators documented only $7.2 million in losses through 2011, about 0.001 percent.”

Romney’s straight-up bald-faced lying pushes the Republican ability to strong-arm mainstream journalists to the very limit.

Political Animal – Will Mitt Romney’s Bet on Lying Pay Off?

“Romney’s straight-up bald-faced lying pushes the Republican ability to strong-arm mainstream journalists to the very limit. It’s a slap in the face whose arrogant contempt couldn’t be more obvious. Romney is saying to the press, ‘You’re stupid, & gullible, & I dare you to call a spade a spade.’ … Paul Waldman’s jaw drops at the Romney ad team’s total disregard for the truth.”

Paul Ryan as Romney’s running mate

August 11, 2012

Romney announced GOP Congressman Paul Ryan as his running mate.

Ryan is best known for the extreme budget that bears his name — one that would end Medicare as we know it while giving huge tax breaks to billionaires & corporations. A Romney-Ryan ticket is a frightening prospect for the middle class & anyone who might one day need Medicare or Social Security.
